PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. The Medical Technologist Senior position performs requested clinical procedures on body fluids and clinical procedures related to patient care; perform quality control, maintenance, trouble shooting on laboratory instruments; perform clerical work in the absence of a technical assistant; assist the supervisor in any capacity requested. He/She does an inventory assessment and order supplies as needed. This person performs tracking for specimens transported to Baptist and helps with send outs to reference laboratories and receive and approve same results. Assists with trouble shooting of all instruments in the laboratory departments trained in and performs maintenance as needed. Assists in the ordering of supplies and scheduling of staff as needed. He/She takes responsibility for their laboratory department in the absence of the laboratory manager and supervisor and assists with policy/procedure writing/review.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Science) or equivalent that would qualify for Florida State Technologist license
5 yrs experience preferred
Current state license as a Medical Technologist
Certified or eligible for certification in clinical laboratory science by a recognized certified agency (ASCP or equiv.)
