Perform routine and STAT chemistry tests on an automated chemistry analyzer. Performs complete blood counts on hematology analyzer and when required, manual differentials. Examine urine specimens by chemical means. Performs urine and serum pregnancy tests. Must have skills to obtain blood from difficult veins using both vacutainer and syringe. Must be able to recognize the significance of an abnormal result and be able to determine when a value appears to be in error and re-test the specimen. This may include taking corrective action and performing minor adjustments on the instrument. Sort and file lab reports and other documentation. Assist in training new employees. Assist providers in locating lab results. Participate in appropriate continuing education, in-service training and Performance Improvement activities. Maintain current licensure. Responsible for knowing and adhering to department and institutional Policies and Procedures. Reports to work on time and ready to work with minimal absenteeism. Adhere to Confidentiality Policies and Procedures / HIPPA Regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two- (2) years college in Medical Technology course work. One (1) year of experience working in a clinical laboratory. Experience with chemistry and hematology analyzer. Licensed as a Registered Medical Technologist in the State of Florida. CPR certification from the American Heart Association (BLS Healthcare Provider). Ability to function efficiently as a working Medical Technologist. Knowledge of modern automated laboratory equipment. Basic computer skills. Ability to relate to diverse ethnic population and work independently.
