The Medical Technologist conducts routine and complex laboratory testing, interprets test results, performs instrument operation and maintenance, and supports laboratory clients as they utilize laboratory services. Applies knowledge of anatomic, physiological and, as relevant, psychological processes to provide appropriate services to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric and special-needs patients.
Complies with all laboratory and safety policies. Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by laboratory policy and regulating agencies.
Legacy Laboratory Services is an integrated lab service. Staff may be assigned to lab facilities at different sites in the system.
: For Medical Technologists hired after April 1, 2012, Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution is required.
Knowledge and Skills
: Must meet Testing Personnel qualifications for high complexity testing as defined per CLIA Regulations 493.1489 (see addendum for detail on CLIA Regulations, Sec. 493.1489). Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions required. Interpersonal and communication skills required.
: Active ASCP or nationally recognized equivalent certification, as approved by Lab Administration, required. For Medical Technologists who obtained initial ASCP certification after January 1, 2004, participation in the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) is required. The CMP is also required for all active NCA certificants who are not ASCP certified prior to January 1, 2004. Current CPR/BLS certification may be required.
