Job Description: Medical language specialist who transcribes and interprets dictation by physicians and other healthcare providers in order to document patient care. The Level I I Transcriptionist's professional expertise in medical transcription enables him/her to serve as a medical language resource to originators, coworkers, and/or other healthcare providers involved with patient care documentation. The incumbent is given a wide variety of assignments that vary by report type,, originator,, and specialty. Minimum Requirements: Graduate of medical secretarial, medical record technology or medical transcription course required.

Experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Expert knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values. Broad knowledge of specialty (or specialties) as appropriate. Profound knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.

Superior skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, style, and editing. Ability to use an extensive array of professional reference materials, often in innovative ways. Influenza vaccination will be required for all personnel working within LVHN, who have patient contact, unless medically contraindicated or due to a bonafide religious belief or practice. Preferred Qualifications: Four years experience with medical terminology preferred.

Experience in a Hospital setting preferred. Experience with medical editing or proofreading preferred. Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) or Certified Medical Transcriptionist status (CMT) preferred.
