Duties: The Mental Health Professional (MHP) provides 1) Therapy/Co-therapy: individual, family and other therapeutic interventions to children/adolescents and their families in the home, community and school; 2) Case management and Community Linkage; 3) Crisis Management; and 4) Family Support Services. The Mental Health Professional does this in conjunction with other treatment team members, which may include persons both inside and outside the agency involved in the treatment of the child or adolescent. The MHP will work on a team with one other Mental Health Professional or a Mental Health Worker under the direct supervision of the Director of Family Based Mental Health Services. This team meets with the family in their home and develops treatment plans and goals for the family, striving to meet various therapeutic needs. Family Based Mental Health Services (FBMHS) are designed for children and adolescents that are at risk of out-of-home placement due to severe emotional or behavioral disturbances. Family Based services adheres to the model of Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (a modification of the Structural Family Therapy Model developed by Salvador Minuchin). All therapists participate in a 3 year training program based on this model. This training is provided by Philhaven at our facilities.
Requirements: Comprehensive knowledge of children/adolescent and family issues with mental illness, strategies for intervention and techniques of psychotherapy and behavioral management planning as acquired through completion of a master’s degree in a mental health field is required. A licensed master’s level degree is preferred. At least two year’s experience working with children and/or adolescents in a mental health setting is required. Experience in Family Based Mental Health Services, or family therapy, crisis management, and case management is preferred. This position requires a valid driver’s license with no restrictions. Philhaven’s Driving Policy requires a reasonably good driving record for the last three years.
