Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, plans, oversees, and encourages involvement of adult and geriatric patients in therapeutic activities and groups in order to assist them in raising their functional level. Assists licensed nursing staff in observing and monitoring behavior and the physical state of patients with emotional and/or behavioral problems. Maintains all required medical record documents and charts patient’s participation. Assists the nurse with the admission and discharge process.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Knowledge of basic patient care procedures
Education & Experience Required:
High school diploma
One year experience in Mental Health Tech or one year related experience working with individuals with mental illnesses
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration Required:
Must obtain certification in Health Care Provider CPR and Crisis Prevention Interventions (CPI) prior to assignment in the clinical area
Physical Demands for Essential Functions of the Job:
Physical ability required to walk and stand for up to eighty percent of work time and to physically restrain patients (less than ten percent of work time)
