The Mentor Tutor will assist in recruiting and mentoring new tutors, training tutors and conducting workshops, providing feedback and oversight to supervisors, marketing services, manning tables, and assuring effective communication/outreach to satellite campuses, evaluating tutorials, and other duties as assigned. A qualified candidate should have a diverse academic background for tutoring purposes.
Scope of Supervision
Computer, printer, copier, fax, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
Personal Information contained in tutor and tutee records and meetings and guidelines provided by college-wide policies and FERPA .
Good office working conditions. The work requires the use of safe work practices with office equipment, and observance of general safety and traffic regulations. Exposure to typical traffic conditions and hazards when visiting other campuses or other locations.
Usual Physical Demands
Travel, extended sitting, some waling, and some light lifting.
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: Bachelor’s degree, tutor training, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in education and/or tutoring. Applicant must demonstrate leadership abilities and management skills. Consistent positive evaluations from students and staff are required.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Valid state motor vehicle license.

Directly provide tutoring services to SSCC students.
Be courteous and respectful to students, staff, and department personnel.
Prepare materials as needed for tutoring sessions.
Complete and submit required records for tutoring sessions and payroll in a timely manner.
Start tutoring session promptly and tutor for the duration of the session.
Engage the student in the learning process.
Maintain department and student confidentiality.
Attend training orientations and workshops as a condition of employment.
Follow institutional and tutoring center policies found in manuals.
Work assigned schedule.
Be willing to meet workload demands.
Check emails and voice mails daily and respond to student requests .
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of SSCC’s Tutoring Center’s program and academic program; ability to write, speak, be detail oriented, and communicate.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
