The primary function of the Visitor Center Associate- Merchandiser is to assist the Executive Director of the Visitor Information Services in taking care of all the merchandise needs of the Houston Visitors Center. In addition t he Visitor Center Associate- Merchandiser is to assist visitors to Houston with accurate and timely information and ring sales . They are an ambassador for the City and must be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the City of Houston and the surrounding areas at all times.

Responsibilities Work with Executive Director to order/ reorder merchandise based on sales. Communicate with Vendor s : order placement, delivery, monthly reports , consignment checks (if applicable) , make periodic visits to vendor locations, etc. Maintain all pertinent paperwork (Vendor correspondence, physical inventories, credit memos, paperwork necessary to reorder merchandise , etc .) Use CAM (Inventory Control System) to print m onthly sales reports (end of month, end of year , sales by vendor and classification) and turn in to Executive Director. Must be able to use point of sale computer system (CAM) , credit card machine, Telecheck machine and any other software /hardware required to accurately process sales for the Visitors Center. Validate parking for guests, following established policy. Responsible for end of day sales processing and closeout, balancing of register, counting till, sort charge slips, run reports and turning monies in daily to Finance and Administration. Store maintena nce; re-stocking of merchandise, stay current with sales prices, checking in and ticketing merchandise, arrange and display merchandise. Assist with special projects or other duties that may be required by Executive Director .

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required . Some retail merchandising background a plus. Must be able to operate a point-of-sale register and balance sales report. Must be able to lift and carry up to 3 0 lbs of merchandise or collateral . Must be able to climb ladder and reach over head at least two feet for stocking merchandise . Working knowledge of basic computer skills (e-mail, internet, etc .) and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook ) required. Organizational skills a must. Excellent communication skills required. Must be adaptable and work c ooperatively with others (team player). Must be able to work with visitors and co-workers in a professional and pleasant manner. Multilingual abilities a plus. Some weekend hours are required. Some evening hours may be necessary. Must have current Driver License , clear driving record and ability to drive company vehicle
