The purpose of this job is to design, develop, and implement merchandising strategies to increase in-store MOM product visibility and facilitate achievement of sales and marketing goals.
Major Job Activities
Develop and maintain the following merchandising strategies; Display Ready Shipper Program, Product Image Panels, and the Shelf Merchandising system. Work is accomplished by leading development efforts and collaboration with key internal departments.
Initiate and coordinate activity (or projects) to improve effectiveness and efficiency of all merchandising strategies.
Develop and execute merchandising options that increase ROI (example: modular rack).
Develop and test new merchandising concepts.
Insure merchandising cost-effectiveness by managing vendor portfolio, analyzing the sales and profit impact of the various strategies, and driving down outsourcing costs for all services and products.
Education: 4 year college degree—business or marketing major preferred.
Experience: 5 years experience in retail merchandising (grocery merchandising preferred). Experience in consumer packaged goods industry desired. Must have knowledge and understanding of strategic merchandising plans.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills (listening, understanding others, teamwork), project management (must manage through other departments and outside suppliers), and conceptual/creative skills for concept design. Also important: knowledge of graphics, pre-press, and print production processes and display manufacturing processes (both permanent and temporary); written/spoke communications skills, budget management know-how, and ability to give work direction to others.
Internal: Coordinates work with Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing QA, Purchasing, Packaging Engineering, Logistics, and Production
External : Exchanges information with customers and gives work direction to suppliers (printers, fulfillment companies, manufacturing companies, photographers, and graphic agencies).
Problem Solving : Process management (establish and maintain department procedures relating to merchandising and post-production assembly), process improvement (resolve problems that develop as a result of internal or external systems and procedures), and budget management (includes cost control, and review of invoices to determine whether full payment is authorized).
Work Structure : Works under the limited direction of the Retail Operations Manager, and obtains work assignments from Marketing and Sales. Organizes and prioritizes own work to meet deadlines. Provides regular status updates to Manager
Responsibility: Responsible for budget adherence, meeting work and project deadlines, and has shared responsibility for impacting sales growth and profitability through cost-effective merchandising.
