The Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Engagement Manager will be responsible to lead cross-line of business M&A business development and sales activities in assigned markets, to serve as strategic deal advisor to clients planning or during transactions and to support the growth of the M&A business. This position may also serve as M&A Market Leader. To fulfill this role, the M&A Engagement Manager will:
Execute the M&A sales strategy within defined markets in collaboration with market / client development and Mercer's other businesses by: establishing and maintaining appropriate market contacts to ensure awareness of market and client issues; interacting with financial and HR executives, C-Suite members (i.e. CEO, COO, CFO) and other members of the business community; developing one-on-one relationships with clients and prospects to match their challenges with Mercer solutions, leading to cross-line of business sales and revenue
Serve as senior strategic M&A advisor to the client during engagements to ensure the client's business objectives are supported by people practices. Oversee the work of M&A project managers
Contribute to initiatives within the M&A business as assigned; develop and share new M&A intellectual capital and marketing material; prepare periodic reports and analyses used to plan and manage the M&A consulting services business; assure personal and team compliance with M&A policies and procedures. Contribute to Mercer's M&A market presence by writing articles, cases studies and general marketing material in addition to public speaking.
Oversee the work of M&A Consultants and M&A Coordinators
Serve as M&A Market Leader based on needs of the business.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Organizational Psychology or Human Resource Management
10 years of experience working in a professional services environment. Experience is only one factor to be considered in hiring and promotion decisions. Excellent business development and sales skills; ability to credibly present Mercer's cross-LOB M&A capabilities; ability to develop long-term client relationships
Deep understanding of corporate transactions, ability to understand and advise on client's strategic objectives; generalist subject matter understanding of Human Resources
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, manage details, and follow through in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to build strong relationships with clients and across Mercer and sibling companies
Sound analytical thinking and problem solving skills
Ability to lead multiple projects at the same time and work effectively under significant time pressure and ambiguity
Solid writing and editing skills
Basic knowledge of Microsoft office applications
