Job Description:
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) is a global provider of
services for managing risk. An independent foundation
with the objective of safeguarding life, property and
the environment, DNV comprises 300 offices in 100
countries, with about 10,000 employees.
DNV is seeking an entry level, hands-on engineer that
will be able to carry out small to mid-sized Forensic
Metallurgy projects in our Materials and Corrosion
Technology Center, located in Dublin, OH. The candidate
must be highly organized, detail oriented, highly
proficient in Microsoft Office 2010, and willing to work
at field locations. Strong interpersonal, communication,
analytical and problem solving skills are essential for
this position.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Successful applicant will assist experienced engineers
with project execution. Incumbent will be responsible
for
  • Data collection, management, interpretation
  • Metallographic preparation and the use of power metal
cutting tools, when necessary
  • Understanding of the degradation mechanisms of
metallic materials
  • Understanding of repair technologies for metallic
materials
  • Proposal and report writing
  • Limited travel (< 25%) is necessary. The engineer will
be accompanied by experienced DNV staff when travel is
necessary.
Interaction with other departments locally and globally
is expected when needed. DNV has a number of national
and international subject matter experts whose input is
valuable on projects. Applicant is expected to develop
strong relationships with subject matter experts locally
and around the world in order to develop industry-based
forensic metallurgy competence.

Job Requirements:
  • BS or higher in a related metallurgical engineering or
material science engineering with a demonstrable focus
on metals.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially
Excel and Word, is required. Experience with finite
element software packages is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel. Travel assignments can range
from several days to several weeks depending on the
situation.
  • Ability to record and manage laboratory and field data
and troubleshoot basic test equipment are required.
  • Must be self-motivated, be able to work independently,
and actively seek subject matter experts when necessary.

Knowledge/Skill:
Position requires excellent technical skills in one or
more of the following areas: Metallurgy (familiarity
with carbon steels is a plus),
electrical/mechanical/materials engineering ,
nondestructive testing, and light microscopy. Proper
grammar and report writing skills are a must. Experience
or familiarity with transmission pipelines and other
pressurized equipment is a plus. Familiarity with
pressure vessel design codes and material specifications
for use in pressurized equipment, such as those issued
by ASME and API, are a plus but not required.
