Lead function in the Metallurgical Laboratory, including logistics, equipment, and supplies for microstructural analysis. Use of Standard Test Methods for Metal Powders & Powder Metallurgy Products, MPIF Standards, ASTM, CQI-9, WHTX, TS-16949. Champion IMDS Database for PPAP submissions. Maintain and develop Met-Lab standard operating procedures, work instructions, and equipment related to testing components and maintaining calibrated instruments. Inspection and measurement of parts for Dimensions, Dimensional Change, Apparent Hardness, Magnetic Properties, Part Contamination, Cracks, Carbon Analysis. Metallurgical testing and evaluation of existing and new products to ensure they meet metallurgical requirements and specifications. Oversee furnace profiling and measurement of sintering atmospheres. Champion improvements based on test results and recorded data. Work with powder suppliers to monitor current product specifications. Lead effort to improve existing materials and/or recommend new materials. Maintain and publish Met-Lab reports for material / product certification. Initiate continual improvement efforts to include lean manufacturing, process improvement, scrap reductions. Interface with customers/suppliers for topics and issues related to metallurgical conformance.
Employment record demonstrating evidence of intermediate to
advanced metallurgical analysis skills, followed by successful process development
and performance. Knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and process flowcharts,
and PPAP. Familiarity with gaging development and inspection methods Knowledge of Failure Analysis of Engineering Structures. Understanding of P/M Metallography and
P/M process is desirable (briquette, sintering, secondary operations, and
heat treatment). Recognized ability to partner with all groups within a
manufacturing environment. Excellent
organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple
projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines. Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and a high energy
level. Leadership skills with outstanding interpersonal and communication
skills. Ability to establish credibility within the organization based on
expertise of job function.
Education & Experience
Associate degree in Metallurgy or Material Science and 6 years
work experience as a Metallurgist equivalent position. Bachelor degree in Metallurgy or Material Science and 3 years work experience as a Metallurgist or
equivalent position preferred. Background in the field of Powdered Metals desired. Experience in the automotive industry or in a global manufacturing
company preferred.
