Under the general direction of the Technical Director of Engineering, lead the Critical Systems Group in the development, support and improvement of the firm's Los Angeles Plant Critical System's processes. Critical Systems include water, compressed air and nitrogen, process alcohol, plant steam and clean steam generation and distribution systems. Responsible for 24x7x365 operation, maintenance and improvement of the Critical Systems and associated areas of the manufacturing facility.

1) Establish and implement a shared vision for Central Utilities systems. Conduct assigned projects according to prescribed project management methodology and apply state of the art techniques in the development of new and/or improved processes.

2) Develop and sustain a comprehensive training program for boiler operators and Utility System technicians.

3) Drive the development of an integrated planning schedule in order to optimize resources and minimize impact to manufacturing scheduling.

4) Establish, develop and drive Good Engineering Practices in all Utility Systems areas.

5) Drive continuous improvement in each of the Utility Systems areas, identify challenges, form countermeasures, execute detailed tasks designed to implement the countermeasures and measure progress towards goals. Drive an effective customer feedback process.

6) Participate in and facilitate the harmonization and coordination of efforts between other teams; such as, Quality Engineering, Facility Engineering, Maintenance, Technical Services, EHS and Regulatory.

7) Manage, identify, hire, develop and recognize staff of engineers and technicians. Develop, mentor and coach the Utility Systems group members.

8) Partner closely with the Facilities Engineering Manager to conduct projects effectively and drive efficiencies in planning work. Develop processes to maintain the Utility Systems facility and equipment in the assigned area operating in effective and compliant manner.

9) Manage and administer reliability maintenance strategies and methods in Utility Systems in order to provide maximum availability and reliability. Apply specialized knowledge to a broad range of complex challenges to achieve optimal up-time and reliability.

10) Manage and report on key maintenance performance. Develop both tactical and strategic plans to improve overall performance.

11) Assure, create, review, approve and oversee documentation to maintain appropriate and required records supporting the Utility Systems operations and maintenance functions.

12) Responsible for preparing budget, overall spending in Utility Systems cost center and meeting forecasts.

13) Participate in internal and external regulatory audits and ensure group is following Utility System procedures and related Divisional/Corporate documents.

  • Must have several experience implementing capacity and improvement projects related to utility systems. Must possess knowledge of purified water systems, compressed gasses, process fluid system design and operation/maintenance.
  • Experience managing direct reports is not a requirement, however incumbent must have the desire and drive to move into a management position and guide and direct an engineering and maintenance team. Strategic and critical thinking skills are a must.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, FDA, purchasing practices and cost management.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.
  • Ability to influence outside of formal scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain industry contacts and be involved in industry interest groups.
  • Growing and developing track record of management/leadership effectiveness and have a successful track record of managing wide-ranging related activities.
  • Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews without assistance.
  • Must be well versed in engineering disciplines (e.g. fluid flow, thermodynamics, heat transfer, statics and dynamics, engineering materials). Must possess knowledge of pharmaceutical water, compressed gasses, process fluid system design and operation/maintenance.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, FDA, purchasing practices and cost management.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.
  • Ability to influence outside of formal scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain industry contacts and be involved in industry interest groups.
  • Growing and developing track record of management/leadership effectiveness and have a successful track record of managing wide-ranging related activities.
  • Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews without assistance.
  • BS in related engineering discipline with related applied experience.
  • 8 -12 years of relevant technical experience.
