The Playtex strategic business unit, which is a division of Energizer Personal
Care, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of a diverse portfolio of
consumer and personal products. Playtex is focused on Feminine Care products,
including Gentle Glide and Sport tampons; Infant Care products, including
spill-proof cups, baby bottles, pacifiers, and Diaper Genie; Sun Care products,
including Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic, and Alpha to Omega brands; and Skin Care
products, including Wet Ones and Gloves.

Primary Purpose of this Position:
• Under general direction, has a duty of instructing, directing, and checking
the work of other quality QC technicians.
• Ensure the Microbiology Unit is functioning efficiently by assessing current
processes and identifying ways to streamline or improve.
• Ensure the timely closure of Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA)
investigations.
• Supporting Sun Care projects: internal and external.
• Performs complex inspections and sets quality standards for component
materials.
• Works with quality inspection supervisors to train inspectors in their use of
control forms, procedures, and correcting quality problems.
• May act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on most complex
projects.
• May lead projects and investigations to promote improvement.
• Uses advanced statistics and Quality Engineering tools (i.e. FMEA, DOE, SPC
and MSA) to solve complex problems and recommend/lead CAPA.

Essential Functions:
• Communicates with internal and external customers to resolve quality issues.
• Ability to motivate closure of open Microbial Out-Of-Specification Corrective
Action Preventative Action (CAPA) incidents.
• Oversees non-conformances and deviations to closure.
• Conducts on-site visits to support of operations to ensure adherence to
procedures and regulatory compliance, and provide guidance in sampling and
testing techniques as needed. Submits reports to QA Management.
• Ability to write, review and approve appropriate Agile documents such as
SOP’s, Product Specifications, Non Conformance Reports, Deviations, etc.
• Able to facilitate a cross functional team in relationship to quality issues.
• Assist in out of specification and failure investigations.
• Assist in the justification, recommendation and implementation of new
laboratory equipment.
• Assist in the implementation of revised procedures and practices.
• Recommend and implement efficiency improvements to increase throughput of the
microbiological workload.
• Evaluate new technologies that could improve existing techniques. Recommend
those that seem to be cost and/or time effective along with justifications.
• Evaluate confidentiality of information received for potential dissemination
to others.

Experience/Education Required:
• Four-year college degree in a biological science with one to three years’
experience in a microbiological laboratory; BS in Microbiology preferred.
• Working knowledge of pour plates, Gram stains, growth promotions, media
preparation and environmental sampling.
• Knowledge of standard microbiological practices such as aseptic techniques,
steam sterilization, out of specification investigations, lab equipment
calibrations and validations as well as regulatory guidelines such as cGMP and
GLP.
• Two years minimum experience in a microbiology job.
• Five years minimum experience working in a manufacturing environment in a
quality related field
• Fiveyears minimum experience in an FDA regulated business or ISO: 9000 Quality
System
• ASQ CQE certification or Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

Skills and Abilities Required:
• Knowledge of CFR 210/211 or CFR 820
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office
• Safe handling of bacteriological and fungal microorganisms.
• Problem solving skills, including root cause analysis
• Knowledge of basic statistics and sampling plans
• Ability and willingness to travel, as in the execution of the duties of this
position the employee may travel up to approximately 10%, of their work time.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time (auditing).
• Ability to travel - ground and air.
