The incumbent is responsible for the testing of food sample using various microbiological analyses. The incumbent prepares sample for processing and maintains documentation of process to facilitate analysis procedures.
Read, calculate and record analysis data to produce a report for the client. Correct any discrepancies that occur on the worksheet.
Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing and blending.
Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed. Pour the agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process.
Weigh appropriate amount of sample and pour correct agar to begin analysis procedures. Write identification onto plates so that client and sample number can be tracked.
Perform rapid method tests when requested by the client.
Maintain accurate quality control documentation of analysis procedures.
Assist other departmental personnel with analysis procedures.
Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
Perform confirmation tests on suspect plates or tubes to identify the strain of bacteria.
Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process
This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed complaint system.
Perform other related tasks as needed.
The incumbent must have a general knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain the correct results. Basic knowledge of food science is necessary to analyze the microbiological content of sample. Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. Physical dexterity is required to prepare plates of sample. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and practices is required to ensure a safe working environment. Interpersonal skills are required to effectively work within teams. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure that analysis is completed within specified time period.
