Position Summary: Under the supervision of a registered nurse, responsible for monitoring cardiac and physiologic/hemodynamic trends and rhythms. Communicates to members of the healthcare team and documents according to policies and procedures to help provide a safe monitoring environtment. Knowledge: Knowledge of cardiac and general anatomy, physiology, and pathology, which includes dysrhythmia interpretation- obtained through the monitor technician program. Knowledge of setting up ans managing physiologic monitoring.Knowledge of basic computer concepts and techniques.Knowledge of operating parameters of monitoring equipment. C Skills: Basic analytical ability is required to: • Operate electronic monitoring equipment. • Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms and subtle changes signifying alterations in patient physiological monitoring. • Make judgments regarding routine patient care activities within scope of practice. • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care • Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument • Ability to use a computer keyboard functions to input and obtain data Successful completion of the Johns Hopkins Hospital monitor technician dysrthythmia test required,score of 85% or higher and 100% correct identification of lethal arrhythmias (ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, v. bradycardia, asystole) Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of approved monitor technician course work.
