POSITION SUMMARY :
Monitor Technician functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse and is responsible for cardiac monitor observation and reporting of cardiac rhythm changes to the nursing staff for further investigation when indicated. The monitor technician will demonstrate knowledge appropriate to the age of the patients served. The Monitor tech also acts as one focal point of communication on the nursing by answering telephone.
Performs other duties incidental to work described herein.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Must demonstrate good verbal communication skills and good judgment, flexibility and adaptability to change. Organization skills a must.
Education: Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician or Cardiovascular Technician program. Scores at least 90% on pre-employment EKG identification competency test.
Required Length and Type of Experience: 1 year Monitor Technician/ EMT/Paramedic/ Cardiovascular Technician (reading telemetry) experience
Required Licensure, Certification or Registry: BLS and successful completion of EKG class (in house class).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Continuously monitor the cardiac function of patients on telemetry, providing an accurate interpretation of the rhythm and promptly notifying the nursing staff of any significant findings or changes. Print and interpret rhythm strips per policy and place in patient's chart; alert nursing personnel of rhythm changes or new occurrences and obtain a graphic tracing for each. Assures monitors are continually observed; checks all alarms three (3) times per shift. Rhythm strips will be analyzed and abnormalities reported promptly to RN and ACM/Charge Nurse. Reports to oncoming shift will be completed including availability of monitors; coordination with bio-med to ensure all available equipment is functioning, and reporting broken or malfunctioning equipment will be done in a timely manner. Responsible for performing general secretarial, receptionist and clerical duties and maintains a smooth functioning unit.
