Monitoring Systems Architect - xStream Operations will be the primary resource responsible for the design, implementation, and operations of the monitoring systems and tools used by Virtustream Operations Center and across the customer infrastructure. Working closely with the Monitoring Systems Engineer,
the Architect drives solution design with different teams determining requirements,
analyzing different architectures, and driving the monitoring solutions. The Architect defines the limitations of different monitoring tools, software and hardware.
Working with the assistance of the Monitoring Engineer, the Monitoring
team will develop and execute project plans resulting in the implementation of
different monitoring solutions, creating, testing and documentation of systems
and tools. Other responsibilities include development of policy, process, and procedure documents.
The Monitoring Architect needs a very strong understanding of enterprise technology infrastructure, including converged networks, IP networking, storage area networks and servers. Also important is a deep understanding of network standards including, but not limited to Simple Network Management Protocol, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, Internet Message Access Protocol, Secure Socket Layer, and Hypertext Transfer Protocol. Virtustream primarily uses Nimsoft Monitoring solutions, including Universal Management Portal, Infrastructure Manager, Alarm Console, and the core monitoring systems.
The Architect will be responsible for ensuring the monitoring systems are available and operational in a 24x7 environment. This includes a rotating on-call responsibility including nights, weekends, and holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation, configuration, and administration of software and hardware systems
Understand and document business and technical requirements as they relate to systems
Develop technical solutions and processes for implementation and upgrade of monitoring
Develop and execute project plans for implementation and upgrade of monitoring systems
Develop monitoring systems documentation and provide training for other employees
QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE - SKILLS:
Bachelors’ degree in technical field, with a Master’s degree preferred
Strong technical understanding of Windows operating systems, with a focus on Windows Server 2008
Strong technical understanding of virtual machine systems, with a focus on VMWare
Recent Systems Administration experience with one or more of the following
VMware vCenter 4.0 & 5.0
Windows 2008 Server & Microsoft Active Directory
Recent configuration and administration experience with Tomcat and MS-SQL Server
Deep understanding networking architecture including
Understanding of, or certification in, ITIL and ITSM
Project management experience
This position is primarily sedentary and is performed in an office setting. The physical demands of this position are limited to the ability to use a computer, telephone and standard office equipment, lift up to 25 lbs., bend, stoop, and carry articles used in office activities. Occasional travel, including operating a motor vehicle, may be necessary.
