Underwrite and evaluate residential mortgage loan applications to provide quality loans for First Interstate Bank and its secondary market investors. Experience preferred in all types of underwriting including conventional, FHA, VA, RD and state housing programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Examine residential mortgage loan applications for accuracy and completeness.
Insure that investor guidelines and private and/or governmental insurer’s requirements and documentation standards are strictly enforced.
Review automated underwriting findings and loan files for adherence to requirements.
Insure compliance with government regulations and bank policies.
Approve or reject loans based on analysis.
Maintain underwriting information for investors, government agencies and private mortgage insurers.
SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILILTIES
Actively support the goals of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) in the development and implementation of new lending programs.
Assist in development of consistent underwriting, quality control and compliance testing procedures throughout the banks’ mortgage lending operations.
Perform other banking duties as assigned.
Train real estate staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or three years Real Estate underwriting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Accurate keyboarding and 10-key skills required. Computer experience required with Windows software experience preferred. Ability to set priorities and work in an organized manner, Ability to perform multiple tasks with great attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision. Ability to meet and deal with the public and co-workers in a friendly, professional manner. Accurate typing skills, computer experience and good telephone voice. Professional grooming and adherence to FIB dress code is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
FHA DE status, VA LAPP approval preferred.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to interpret documents to ensure they are correct.
