Responsible for quality loan decisions and performance requirements of underwriting staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise all mortgage underwriting functions and daily workflow related to underwriting activities. Train, develop, supervise, and conduct performance evaluations and other personnel actions for all subordinates.
Work closely with underwriting staff to insure staff is aware of and following all established program and underwriting requirements of each investor and/or agency and insurer.
Perform regular pre-closing audits to ensure performance standards are being met, as well ensuring underwriting consistency and identifying training needs.
Act as a resource to both underwriting and production staff and provide information regarding changes to investor and/or guarantor policies and procedures.
Work closely with Mortgage Operations Manager to ensure daily work production requirements are being met.
Underwriting mortgage loans, as needed, in compliance with established policies and requirements.
Serve as a delegated or direct-endorsement underwriter and SAR appraisal reviewer within the requirements established by the investor, insurer or guarantor.
Maintain a current knowledge of existing laws, statutes, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures pertaining to real estate and mortgage lending.
Work closely with loan originator and processor to ensure compliance with all investor guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned. Qualification Requirements:
Education - Bachelor's degree in business administration or management with advanced industry courses in real estate lending including knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations.
Experience Required - At least three years management/supervisory experience and at least five years experience in underwriting. Advanced industry courses in real estate lending recommended.
Skills - Must have five years experience in mortgage underwriting including conventional, FHA, VA, RD and/or specialty program underwriting. Must have an active DE CHUMS and SAR number and a minimum of three years management/supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to train staff. Must be familiar with all investor guidelines. Working experience with DU, LP and GUS underwriting systems preferred.
