The purpose of this position is to create multimedia products for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), and to help maintain and update VIMS' website and social media channels. The successful candidate will also assist Publications Center staff in creating printed publications, such as booklets, reports, brochures, and posters.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in digital arts & design or similar field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in broadcasting, theater, film, television, communications, photography, graphic arts or video/film production. Desktop publishing experience including skills in layout and design. Experienced with use of web content management systems and social-media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Demonstrated knowledge of technology related to web editing, video editing, videography, social media, and other new media. Adept with both Mac and Windows platforms, and with software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier; Adobe Soundbooth, Avid, or similar; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe InDesign; Adobe illustrator and/or Corel Draw; and PowerPoint. Must work well in a multi-tasking environment with firm deadlines; communicate effectively orally and in writing; and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

Related work experience with setting up and operating electronic video equipment and/or performing other multimedia production tasks. Background or coursework in the natural sciences is desirable.
