This is a permanent position located in Region 1, on the Spotted Bear Ranger District of the Flathead National Forest in Hungry Horse, MT.
The position serves as a Natural Resource Specialist (Recreation) with primary responsibility for the development of annual work plans and the execution and administration of short range plans relating to recreatiron, lands, trails, special uses, and minerals activities.
The Spotted Bear Ranger District is an "in/out" district the balance of the year the position works at the Spotted Bear Ranger Station at the southern end of the Hungry Horse Reservoir or at a Wilderness location such as Big Prairie Station or camped out. Travel time to Hungry Horse from Spotted Bear Station is approximately 2 hours by vehicle. The wilderness locations are up to three days travel by foot or stock from Spotted Bear. Housing at Spotted Bear is limited but will be provided and could be a bunkhouse, camp trailer, shared residence or singe-family residence. Single family residence are not guaranteed. The Natural Resource Specialist (Recreation) has the responsibility for conducting surveys and studies of existing dispersed and developed recreation facilities.
The incumbent will recommend potential sites or areas for additional recreation use and planned development.
The incumbent would also participate in the development, administration, and execution of annual work plans for recreation resources.

Develops environmental documents including impact of statements concerning proposed recreational sites, wilderness, trails, or OHV programs on other resources.
The incumbent provides specific program input into the overall natural resources. management planning process.
Coordinates with other natural resource disciplines ensuring program requirements are included in the project planning and execution.
Provides technical and administrative supervision to subordinate employees.
You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above.
Bachelor's Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
--One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
--Examples of specialized experience are: Experience in developing natural resources management plans including monitoring studies, working and coordinating with other forest service disciplines and partners, such as engineering to plan recreation or wilderness area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction and construction projects.

Applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program.
