Operate various equipment in a regional communications center; coordinate and respond to all emergency (911) calls from the public in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines. Position requires constant contact with the public in stressful situations that require good judgment, considerable tact, and calmness.
High School Diploma or GED. 1 year experience providing high-volume customer service in a fast-paced environment that required multi-tasking, initiative, and active problem-solving; 1 year emergency dispatch experience preferred
Correctable vision of 20/30
Ability to pass an Audiogram Test
Ability to speak clearly in a well-modulated voice with good diction
Pass a written entrance exam, background investigation, psychological test, physical examination, and oral review board
Capacity to learn the operation of telephone and radio communications, CRT and related communications equipment, and operating requirements and techniques, together with a knowledge of public safety functions and procedures
Capacity to learn the street system and geography of the city and adjacent areas
Ability to think and act quickly, accurately and calmly in emergency situations
Able to type 25 words per minute
Salary: During Training : $16.74 per hour base pay
After Training is completed : $16.74 per hour + Regional Pay of $166.67 bi-weekly
(24 pp) combined to an equivalent of $18.66 per hour.
Certification Pay for those with Intermediate and Advanced Telecommunication
Certificates from TCLEOSE
Work hours: Varying schedule of days, evenings, and nights. 40 hours per week;
some overtime may be required
Test Date: To be conducted the week of Feb. 4, 2013. Will be scheduled - times will vary.
