Responsibilities

The NSMC Network Specialist provides the highest level technical support as well as consultative service to the Partners HealthCare System Information Systems (IS) departments, Medical Departments, and North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) end user community in regards to system, infrastructure, and application integration and interoperability. Responsibilities include operational support for production systems, i.e., key business applications and network resources, the Partners HealthCare WAN server environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Under direction of the NSMC End User Services Corporate Manager, provides senior technical support to both in-house IS staff and user departments regarding all NSMC End User IT solutions

Serves as an advocate for end-users, to perform testing and problem analysis for any server, desktop, and IT infrastructure work.

*
Provides consulting services at the highest technical level for remote hospital sites; works with various IS departments in the process of network, server, application and desktop integration and upgrades. Develops and manages project plans for large implementations.

*
Evaluates business needs for end users and recommends solutions in accordance with Partners platform standards.

*
Acts as liaison between third-party vendors and end-user during implementation and troubleshooting issues.

*
Provides leadership in the evaluation, planning, testing, installation, and configuration of network based applications.

*
Occasional after hours and weekend work to perform tasks that cannot be done during business hours.

*
Participates in Workplace Computing Team on-call rotation to troubleshoot major system issues and remote access off hours (weeknights and weekends)

*
Participate as a member of IS project Management Teams as necessary.

*
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

*
BS in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

*
5+ years of experience in desktop administration in a large computing environment.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required

*
Expert knowledge of Operating Systems: Windows7, XP (MAC OS a plus)

*
Expert knowledge of client hardware technologies: PCs, Laptops, Thinclients, peripherals

*
Working experience with MS Office Suite, Sharepoint, Wise Package Studio, Flexera Admin Studio

*
Working experience with Infrastructure: Active Directory, Server Administration, Group Policy, Citrix

*
Understanding of network topologies, IP networking, and security, permissions

*
Scripting Experience required, Application development background a plus

*
Good understanding of Web technology

*
System Center Configuration Manager Suite

*
Experience with application packaging, application distribution disciplines and techniques

*
Experience with SQL and MS Access databases

*
Experience with Mobile Device support (Smartphones, Tablets, etc)

*
Excellent project management skills

*
Independent and self-starter

*
Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements

*
Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

*
Well organized

Working Environment

*
Shared office environment with other Information Service members.

*
24x7 On-call after hours rotation ("1 week every 2 months) as 2nd tier support.

Remote access to support off-hours required.

*
Lifting up to 30lbs or more may be required.
