The HCA North Texas Patient Transfer Call Center is located on The Medical Center of Plano campus. The Call Center Communications Specialist is responsible for triage of patients to an appropriate HCA North Texas Division hospital through inpatient and ED transfers and direct admissions. Specific job functions include but are not limited to:
Responsible for accepting and tracking all hospital transfers and transports. Must be proficient in EMTALA and document all transfers on transfer intake sheet.
Communicates with physicians, physician offices, and outlying facilities if bed placement of a specific patient will be problematic. Uses problem-solving skills to determine the best course of action which will be satisfactory to the patient, the physician and the hospital.
Works collaboratively with other team members as required to develop and implement the plan of care.
Consults with on-call physician and/or urgent care physicians on patient care and advice when appropriate.
Proficient in running Central Logic, Bed Management and other Call and office-oriented systems as needed.
Provides assistance in maintaining accurate database of information
Assists in data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and analyzing of triage problems for the purpose of developing and implementing prot
Position requirements include:
Current EMT certification preferred
Minimum 1 year of ER experience; Emergency Medical Dispatch experience preferred
Understanding of medical terminology
Previous telephone triage experience a plus
Working knowledge of EMTALA
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team
Ability to deal in an effective, positive manner with dissatisfied customers
Basic computer skills
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Able to self manage by taking responsibility to initiate, assess and take action as well as ability to function calmly in stressful situations.
