The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Nurse Specialist for the pediatric hematology/oncology clinic. The selected candidate will provide direct patient care (administering chemotherapy and other medications, working with implanted infusion devices, and other patient procedures) in the specialty clinic as well as assist in the outpatient management of the general pediatric clinic. The selected candidate will prioritize clinical situations and assist health care providers with clinic procedures (i.e., IV therapy, lumbar puncture, phlebotomy, IM and SQ injections, and accessing Infusaports and Hickman catheters). The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. In addition, the selected candidate will serve as an educator for the patient population and other family members regarding preventative health measure, disease, and disease management.

Candidates should possess the ability to work with a positive approach in a team environment. Candidates should also possess and demonstrate leadership qualities and be self-directed with the ability to utilize critical thinking skills, communicate effectively, and perform many tasks simultaneously. Prefer two years of pediatric nursing experience and some experience with oncology patients and chemotherapy administration. Current CPR certification is desired.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
