Overview
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) is a program targeted to limited-income families, individuals, and youth teaching nutrition and food resource management. The Nutrition Educator in the SNAP-Ed Program provides nutrition and food preparation training to adults and youth in schools using a specific curriculum and working with a supervising Extension Agent. Located in Roosevelt County, this position works with low-income adults and youth audiences in schools that meeting the poverty guidelines during the school year

Duties and
Responsibilities

Duties include: recruitment and marketing of program, presenting classes on basic nutrition, food preparation, food safety, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles at various sites; data entry of participants food recall and evaluations, with reports and success stories; maintaining current and accurate records and reports; traveling to various schools and other sites to give programs within the county; and performing related duties as required.

Required
Qualifications


1.
High school diploma or G.E.D. plus one year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience working with low income persons and/or minorities or equivalent demonstrated understanding of low-income issues. Familiarity and knowledge of programs such as SNAP, Head Start, WIC, etc. is preferred.

Demonstrated ability motivating adults and children to participate in learning process through effective communication and demonstration.

3.
Demonstrated ability to effectively relate knowledge of food preparation and nutrition to children.

4.
Demonstrated ability to assess participant needs and responses and to adjust lessons to the audience.

5.
Demonstrated ability to use technology (computer and programs) to accurately input data, establish and maintain records and reports.

6.
Demonstrated ability and experience to lead and interact effectively with youth in small group settings or classrooms. Also interact effectively with adults in a group learning setting.

7.
Demonstrated ability to accurately follow instructions and procedures.

8.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

9.
Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana driver's license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points). Must have access to a vehicle to use for work (mileage will be reimbursed), and have minimum vehicle liability insurance. Do not send a copy of the driver's license.

Candidate Will

The successful candidate will also have the following abilities: communicate positively and effectively with the public both in person, through email, over the phone; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public; exercise good judgment and self-motivation; and represent SNAP-Ed and MSU Extension to others in a professional and courteous manner.

In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

2.
Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana driver's license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points). Must have access to a vehicle to use for work (mileage will be reimbursed), and have minimum vehicle liability insurance. Do not send a copy of the driver's license.

3.
The person in this position must be willing to travel for the required trainings.
