Position Description:
A management position requiring strong experience in natural language processing with strong organizational and leadership skills. Responsible for planning, testing, and documenting software modules and linguistic knowledge bases for a state-of-the-art medical NLP system, as well as participating in design & implementation. Will lead a team of research linguists to develop and improve software modules that perform morphological analysis, tokenization, parsing, and semantic analysis. Also, responsible for defining system requirements for complex language processing systems and/or preparing studies and analyzing existing systems. This position requires previous project leadership experience, including project planning, task assignment, and coordination with QA and product management.

Managerial/Technical

:

Lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of NLP software with thorough documentation of sophisticated algorithms and procedures for installation and maintenance.

Lead the design and maintenance of domain specific lexical databases related to medical diagnoses, procedures, and various aspects of medical encounters.

Coordinate with Product Management Team and Software Engineering Team to ensure unified development priorities and project plans for software product enhancements and new product development.

Work closely with subject matter experts to derive, document and implement product requirements for information extraction and coding logic across multiple medical specialties.

Apply agile development practices and rigorous quality assurance testing to ensure high quality results that meet product requirements.

Refine and improving the NLP testing process to produce measurable, repeatable results that can be applied on a large scale to multiple types of medical documentation.

A demonstrated ability to lead a team and to handle a variety of tasks is crucial.

Ability to motivate, train and recruit a high-quality NLP team.

Logical thinker and quick learner with strong problem solving and analytical ability.

Customer service oriented with a strong commitment to produce high quality, workable solutions for both internal and external customers.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Cognitive Science, Linguistics, or Computer Science

7+ years of related professional work experience

4+ years experience with natural language processing (NLP)

2+ years of project leadership experience

Assets:
Knowledge of Perl, Python, Lex, Yacc, Java, ANTLR, Yacc++, and/or C++

Knowledge of Computational Linguistics

Experience with MS Visio

Experience with SQL

Experience with XML and/or XSLT

Previous experience with medical NLP

Master's Degree or PhD preferred
