Job Description:
Engineering Technician 4 - SPM
Duration: 6 months / Contract
Work Location: Newport News, VA. 23607
Clearance Type: Confidential Security Clearance
Hours: 7:30 - 4:00
Responsibilities: Provides technical support to
engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers,
maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical
data, such as laboratory or material test results and
engineering design changes. Produces engineering
documentation, reports, drawings flow charts, block
diagrams, and schematics. Performs detailed mathematical
calculations using established formulas; preliminary
analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such
areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional
consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning
technical data.

Basic Qualifications:
  • This position requires a demonstrated mastery level of
knowledge of appropriate systems, with full
understanding of operational performance, reliability,
maintainability, logistics, interoperability and human
interface, gained from career senior enlisted E7 and
above officer service. Where appropriate, an employee,
who achieved the E6 military rank and has more than 10
years of engineering/design experience may also qualify.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of current
developments and trends in naval ship systems concepts
and technology.
  • .May require the ability to physically access a wide
variety of work sites, including those aboard ships
under various stages of construction or overhaul,
including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and
may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
  • May require the ability to obtain and retain specific
security clearances as well as full or partial radiation
worker qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • AA or other 2 year technical degree in related
discipline and 6 years related experience or equivalent
Navy experience; with a preference being that the
candidate have demonstrated mastery level of knowledge
of systems, with a full understanding of operational
performance, reliability, maintainability, logistics,
interoperability, and human interface, gained from
career Navy or Coast Guard senior enlisted status.
  • This position is within the Propulsion Plant
Engineering Activity PPEA Steam Plant Manual SPM Group.
Due to the nature of the work, A4W electric plant
operating experience is strongly desired. Equivalent
experience will be considered on a case basis.
  • 1. U.S. Navy Nuclear Training:
a. Completion of Naval Nuclear Power Pipeline Nuclear
Field A School, Naval Nuclear Power School, and Naval
Nuclear Prototype Training
b. 8 years of experience operating the propulsion plants
aboard A4W aircraft carriers
c. Load Dispatcher Qualified d. Note: Propulsion Plant
Watch Supervisor/Propulsions Plant Watch Officer
qualification is desirable, but not required.
