                                      Position Summary:

                                      Responsible for the strategic planning, architecture, high level design, and optimization of Staples’
                                              Retail network. Work with other architecture groups to ensure systems, applications, and connectivity are designed and deployed in adherence to network and security policies. Provide subject matter expertise on critical network project designs. Evaluate network technologies with a focus on developing solutions to improve performance, resiliency, scalability, and flexibility. Ensure stable and secure operation of networking environments both at the corporate and store level while working collectively with a multi-discipline team to plan and implement highly visible Retail projects.

                                              Major Accountability:
                                              • Network design and architecture
                                              • Create and maintain detailed design and support documentation
                                              • Communication to project management and EOS/IT management
                                              • Assessment and recommendation regarding overall infrastructure health
                                              • Research new tools and technologies
                                              • Knowledge transfer to supporting teams (turn-over)

                                              Primary Responsibilities:
                                              • Optimize, configure, and document the enterprise-wide network infrastructure and advise project teams during design and implementation
                                              • Provide architectural and technical direction, ensuring solutions are aligned with short-term strategies and long-term vision
                                              • Define infrastructure requirements for the implementation of new applications
                                              • Lead projects and efforts that require specialized infrastructure skills
                                              • Work with the various project stakeholders to facilitate implementation and completion of projects
                                              • Provide 3rd level technical support for complex production systems and services
                                              • Participate in after-hours 24x7 support rotation
                                              • Maintain a strong connection with the core Network Engineering team
                                              • Identify areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed; maintain all relevant documentation
                                              • May act as project manager in area of expertise
                                              • Lead in the evaluation of new products and services
                                              • Participate in related industry organizations and special interest groups
                                              • Limited travel
                                                      Basic Qualifications:
                                                      • 8+ years of experience in Network Design
                                                      • Experience with TCP/IP and common network protocols
                                                      • Experience designing and supporting enterprise-class networks
                                                      • Experience with routing, switching, and IP subnetting
                                                      • Experience with enterprise network security technologies
                                                      • Experience with OSI Reference Model layers 1 – 7

                                                      • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems
                                                      • CCIE, CCNP and/or other technical certifications highly desirable
                                                      • Experience with virtualization technologies, Cisco networking technologies, Application Network Services including SLB, GSLB, and Application Acceleration technologies
                                                      • Experience with data center LAN and WAN design
                                                      • Experience with WLAN design a plus
                                                      • Strong troubleshooting skills including detailed packet capture and analysis
                                                      • Experience performing detailed Risk Assessments
                                                      • Technical writing experience
                                                      • Ecommerce background desired
                                                      • Proficient knowledge of project management methodologies and/or leading large technical projects
                                                      • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills
                                                      • Proven ability to succeed in a multi-task, team-oriented environment
                                                      • Familiarity with ITIL Change Management
