Come join Apple's Network Capacity Planning and Performance Team! This position will require extensive network performance analysis skills and thorough knowledge of standards and techniques to collect, correlate, analyze and report on performance metrics to position Apple's data network to support explosive future growth and demand. The focus of this team is to understand and document core business application flows, dependencies and integration points, and deploy tools to establish throughput baselines and accelerate application problem resolution. We prefer candidates who have a thorough background in, and understanding of, large-scale enterprise networks and network devices, who know from experience where potential bottlenecks commonly arise and how to readily identify and avoid them.
Work Performed:
Interface with business stakeholders and application teams - developers DBAs and SEs - to profile application data flows and growth projections
Develop procedures around application traffic analysis, base lining, forecasting
Create usable and meaningful capacity baselines for all in-path network devices for critical applications and services
Develop forecast models for growth, including scale up of existing environments, hardware refreshes and new datacenter build-out
Evaluate and deploy advanced tools for network performance analysis and problem isolation
Create and maintain logical diagrams and other technical documentation
Minimum five years experience in network operations with expertise in large-scale voice and/or data environments
Strong knowledge of enterprise-class switching, routing, load-balancing and firewall platforms
Superior analytical and troubleshooting skills
Solid understanding of L2-L3 networking protocols and WAN technologies
Masterful in rendering complex networks into easy-to-understand diagrams using tools like Omnigraffle or Visio
Strong verbal communication and documentation skills a must
Must be able to effectively and independently manage projects and workflows
Experience in data modeling using tools like iWork Numbers or MS Excel a major plus
