Description

The Network Engineer will work under the supervision of the LAN WAN Architect. The Network Engineer is responsible for the design and operation aspects of all network and router configurations of the three data networks for this customer. Responsible for system engineering, implementation, and support of network switches, routers, appliances, and other networking devices. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to design, troubleshooting, and implementations of network devices in order to best meet client requirements; troubleshooting complex data or voice network and hardware problems; researching and analyzing network problems that require evaluation of intangibles, such as downstream effects on client satisfaction. Will assist in developing methods and procedures to be implemented and used on complex technologies to enhance performance. Assists in evaluating cost and analyses and vendor comparisons for projects to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations. Familiar with major network components and their operation such as Cisco routers, firewalls, switches etc. Qualifications include Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Five or more years of experience in networks, LAN/WAN or management information systems; Strong knowledge of modern networking technologies including: TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6), routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP), VPNs (IPSEC, IKE, L2TP, GRE, etc), and WAN technologies (SONET, MPLS, ATM, Frame Relay, etc); Strong knowledge of application protocols (DNS, SMB/CIFS, POP3, SMTP, MAPI, IMAP, FTP, SSH, HTTP, SSL, etc.) and their behavior across LAN/WAN infrastructures. Knowledge and experience with protocol analyzers, firewalls, IPS/IDS devices, routers, and switches. Strong customer service and team support skills desired. CCNA, CCNP certification is desired. Work location: Oakton, VA. Frequent onsite travel to client location is required (Washington, DC).

Qualifications
