This Network Engineer position is responsible for providing support Aerial Plant environments. It is extremely important to the company that all Joint Use and Company owned poles are managed, tracked and requests are responded to. The position will be responsible for timely preparation of outside plant work orders that may include field notes, detailed construction drawings, permits, securing right of way and easements. Candidate must become familiar with aspects of pole attachments including the use of Pole Track (Varasset) software and how it interfaces into CadTel.
This position will be expanded as required to support the volume of Joint Pole issues. The candidate must be able to assist in the project management of all Pole activity and have the ability to provide process training.
Candidate will assist with coordinating and administer the best practices of these tools throughout project timeframes. Assist in managing the database (Varasset) expansion including working with IT, Engineering and outside vendors to provide consistent execution of the tool as it is rolled out within the region. Day to day administration and support of the current database including; ILJUN tickets, JPUP’s (Joint Use Proposals), Invoicing/Billing(Payables & Receivables), create MBR’s, Joint Use Agreements with ComEd and Ameren. This will also include the coordinator duties; ensuring the Joint Use Pole jobs are being worked, making sure safety violations and transfer work is being taken care of.
Specific requirements of the position include:
Prepare project justifications for approvals including EWOP documents.
Process ILJUN tickets
Update records according to As-Builts
Communication with multiple power companies and their contractors
Code and approve contractor invoices
verifying current pole records and getting those records into Varasset.
All other activities with respect to the needs of the business
Must have detailed knowledge of outside plant activities. Knowledge of engineering tools to include the following, Varasset, CadTel, Adobe, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, email and other vendor software. Excellent organizational skills, communications skills (written and verbal) and customer relations will be utilized in achieving desired results and are critical to the position. Outside plant construction project management experience and inventory management experience. Experience in right of way, private easement and permitting with local, state and federal entities. Must be able to manage multiple projects in various stages of activity. Must have an appreciation and understanding of the demand for increased broadband services and all aspects of advancements towards data and voice convergence
B.S. in Engineering or equivalent, or a minimum of 3 to 5 year’s experience related to outside plant and transport facilities, preferable in a local exchange environment. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge with heavy emphasis on outside plant. Must have a solid knowledge of telecommunications outside plant. Must be able to participate and lead project teams to achieve team objectives and goals. Strong interpersonal skills are very important in discussions and meetings with Engineering team, regional managers, vendors, local supervisors and technicians.
