The Network Engineer is responsible for planning, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the campus network infrastructure including all wired and wireless network equipment and cable plant. The Network Engineer ensures all systems operate efficiently and optimally and is responsible for the planning of network/system upgrades to ensure ample capacity to support all campus systems and services. The candidate for this position should exhibit proficiency in managing and maintaining all items listed below and have experience in a large campus environment ( >1000 ports).
Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of WLAN, LAN, and WAN equipment from vendors including HP Procurve, 3COM, and H3C.
Must have good working knowledge of LAN protocols including BGP, OSPF, 802.1q VLAN, IPv4/IPv6 subnetting, Multicast, and other enterprise level LAN protocols.
Experience with large DNS and DHCP deployments using multiple redundant ISC BIND and DHCP servers across multiple network segments
Experience with security devices and protocols including IPS and Firewall systems
Knowledge of security, troubleshooting, and auditing tools
Working knowledge of LINUX strongly preferred
Experience with network cabling standards for CAT5/6 and fiber-optic
Willingness to learn new technologies and creativity to present alternative solutions to enhance existing services.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred but will consider years of experience in lieu of degree.
