Under the direction of the Network Enterprise Architect, install and maintain all aspects of communications on the enterprise network including wireless networks, local area networks, wide area networks, remote enterprise installations, problem troubleshooting, network management system administration and network security.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum education and/or experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field, and a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Network Engineer. Must have at least three (3) years experience with wide and local area networks including experience with common-carrier data networks. Experience requirements may be concurrent years. Must be familiar with LAN/WAN topology, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points and VPN’s. System administration skills are preferred. An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, staff and equipment vendors is critical. Must have expert-level knowledge of secure network switching and routing at an enterprise level, wiring and cabling and network management. Familiarity with research methods and techniques is necessary. Experience in information technology systems design and programming is essential. Experience in design specification development, data communications security and privacy techniques is preferred. Knowledge of principles of business system analysis, including the analysis of procedures, equipment and methods is critical. Form and report design experience and knowledge of I.S. processes, regulations, codes, ordinances and terminology is preferred. Must have a thorough working knowledge of MS Windows, UNIX and TCP/IP network environments. Must be able to evaluate and resolve customer problems and issues. Must be able to analyze, interpret and present research findings and to analyze specifications and instructions to develop appropriate systems and programs. The ability to prepare design specifications is important. The ability to conceive a variety of solutions to functional problems and to reduce abstract ideas to easily understood procedures is optimal. Must understand database organization, access and retrieval techniques. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors and users is crucial.

Specialized training, certifications, or other special requirements:
Cisco Network Certification (CCNP)

NOTE: Degrees/credits must be from an academically accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education (CHEA).

Essential Job Tasks:

Assist in planning, forecasting, designing, implementing and managing the enterprise network, including wide area and local area networks. Provide input to management for network design and procurement of network equipment and supplies. Perform software and hardware installation and relocation as required to support the business needs of the enterprise. Monitor and tune the enterprise network for optimal performance including scheduling preventative maintenance. Monitor system and provide security from unauthorized activities. Act as the primary interface with equipment vendors for resolving problems. Participate in the establishment of a growth plan for the network to insure the best quality service in a state of-the-art environment. Provide planning and technical support for enterprise installations. Provide wired and wireless network support, including a secure architecture over both. Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion. Participate with vendors in the assessment of advanced retail transaction processing and database production including beta and field test participation. Perform at or above the enterprise’s Information Technology performance standard. Perform other, related duties as assigned.
