Job Description / Statement of Duties:
The Network Engineer supports all aspects of the College's network infrastructure, including operations, maintenance, implementation, and administration of the network, and acts as an expert in IT infrastructure, providing guidance in evaluating, selecting, and implementing new networking technologies as appropriate. Along with the Network Systems Specialist, the Network Engineer is responsible for day-to-day network monitoring, maintenance and resolution of complex network problems. The Network Engineer is supervised by the Deputy Chief Information Officer The Network Engineer: *Manages, researches, designs, tests and deploys network changes and upgrades. *Configures, monitors, and maintains wired and wireless network infrastructure including routers, switches, wireless access points, NAC, VPN, and other network equipment across a multi-building campus. *Develops, implements, manages and enforces network and system policies, including firewall, router and VPN gateway configuration. *Oversees network and system monitoring; reviews alerts, and responds appropriately. *Collaborates with system administrators to manage essential network services, including DNS, DHCP, Active Directory domain services, and network security. *Resolves complex network support issues. *Creates and maintains network documentation, including network topology, equipment inventory and administrative procedures. *Coordinates with other IT staff to minimize disruptions to the campus community and ensure consistent communications about network and system status. *Works with vendors and external network consultants as needed. *Perform duties of a related nature as assigned by the Deputy CIO and/or the Vice President for Technology/CIO. *Is accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions for which they are responsible and which fall within the scope of the Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity/Diversity Plan. This position will be at the Staff Assistant or Staff Associate level in the Association of Professional Administrators. Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Exposure to enterprise-grade networks *Solid understanding of networking technologies *Experience with Cisco or competitor equipment *Ability to solve complex technical problems independently *Excellent customer service and communication skills, including the ability to convey highly complex technical information to others *Availability for off hours maintenance and emergency support as needed
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in related field *Cisco or competitor certification *Experience with Cisco Nexus *Experience in an enterprise Windows Server environment *Experience with virtualization, blade servers, and storage technologies *Experience working in higher education
