Job Description:
Secure Mission Solutions has an immediate need for a
Network Engineer. The Engineer will work in a fast paced
and growing network engineering environment, with new
and progressive technologies added to the daily
experiences.
The current team needs more mid-tier experienced network
engineers in order to grow and expand current government
business model. The Network Engineer will experience
camaraderie atypical of classic work environments due in
no greater part than the colleagues are all top notch
and expect high levels of performance of each other.
They challenge each other and test each other’s
knowledge and experience. The results are a group of
highly charged, technically adept team mates that have a
can do attitude and eager to prove the next greatest
capability or provide the warfighter with the best
possible Voice, Video, and Data (VV&D) solutions
available. The engineer must be able to bring their
skills and experience into this environment and weave
them into an integral part of the group. The network
engineer will be expected to become quickly familiar
with the environment and activities of the Lab, quickly
take ownership of mid-tier activities and smooth out the
work flow for the senior technicians. Provide quality
technical and engineering inputs and make contributions
that help produce success.
Applicant must have experience in DoD Unified
Capabilities (UC) concepts which includes a broad set of
voice, video, and data-sharing capabilities that promise
to enable unprecedented joint collaboration among the
military services, combatant commands and defense
agencies. IP-based solutions will enable DOD users to
better collaborate via instant messaging, chat and
Web-based conferencing, among other applications.
Applicant should possess a OS certification, (List of
preferred certs provided below in order of preference).
Applicant must possess strong network troubleshooting
skills. Applicant should demonstrate experience and
understanding of in IA management of systems and
infrastructures. Applicant must be able to function in a
team environment where ideas are presented, shared and
possibly critiqued. Must be able to take ownership of
specific systems and or projects and plan the technical
approach, scope the efforts and schedule the work and
resources required in concert with other activities of
the laboratory. Aide Sr. Network Engineers with system
requirements through test design and implementation.
Provide support to senior staff by taking daily
performance of maintenance and sustainability actions
off their plate and keep them informed of statuses
relating to the health and quality of the laboratory
systems assigned to you. Possess strong technical
writing and test plan experience. Produce documentation
such as engineering documentation, operational guidance,
network drawings and reports for senior leadership and
sponsors
Travel: Up to 25%.

Required Experience:
  • Security + Certification Mandatory
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • Good at quickly gaining a level of familiarity with
new software
  • Knowledge of Cisco video teleconferencing solutions,
(desired)
  • Self-starter – See something that needs to be done and
go do it.
  • Documentation: Configuration Guides, SOPs, Technical
Whitepapers, IA assessment reports, etc.
  • Provide engineering insight on information systems
(Both critique the ideas of others and have own ideas
critiqued)
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills (present
own engineering or process improvement ideas to the
engineering group and external agencies)
  • 5+ years’ experience with engineering / integrating
multi-vendor networks
  • Ability to work closely with other motivated members
of a cohort
  • PKI / TLS knowledge a big plus (especially 3rd party
certs in a Microsoft environment)
  • Ability to apply analytical problem solving skills to
a wide range of issues

Desired certifications (Listed in order of preference):
1. (RHCE) Red Hat Certified Engineer
2. (MCSE) Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
3. (RHCSA) Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator
4. (CCNA) Video and/or Voice
5. (CCNP) Cisco Certified Network Professional
6. (CISSP) Certified Information Systems Security
Professional
7. (CCIE) Collaboration

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information
Systems or related field and 5 years’ experience in high
paced networking laboratory or IP based testing
environment preferred.
