      Department Overview:

The Caterpillar Ground Transportation Operations Center is the central transportation planning and execution facility for the Americas . This facility has responsibility to ensure the successful delivery of North American shipments to and from Caterpillar and client facilities.

The center is composed of teams engaged in:

      a) Implementation

      b) Operations

      c) Support functions

      Job Description / Responsibilities

The Network Planner (NP) will be in charge of optimizing the Caterpillar inbound network for the most cost efficient loads at the highest trailer utilization. Daily, the Network Planner will optimize all shipments to create the most efficient loads. Once scanning through all the loads, the NP will tender all Parcel, LTL and TL carriers. Once tendered, the loads become the responsibility of the regional load planners to monitor. Network Planner will monitor drop in shipments as the day goes on and will run eligible load optimization at standard times each day.

NP will spend half their day doing the optimization and planning of the loads throughout the network. The second half of their day will be to validate the data and interpret ways of cost saving throughout the network optimization.

NP will work with IT on ways to achieve these savings. If Load Planner has questions or ideas about how to make the optimization more efficient or trends they are seeing, they can report them to the NP for further analysis. This will allow a buffer for questions or concerns that need to be passed on to IT. The NP will need to be the point to person for all questions regarding the load planning.

NP should be the person that travels to the facilities and presents FOM/TM to our customers. The NP should run a network optimization in QA/TEST TM and show the capabilities of the system. This will be beneficial alongside the implementation team on our facility visits.

NP should also being running analysis and small projects to forecast different ways of cost savings throughout our network. For example, running cost analysis on what the savings could be if we opened the strategy files to have a 150 mile campus versus a 200 mile radius. The NP would work with the Modeling team on these projects.
