The Network Specialist performs general network maintenance relating to users, contexts, and network devices under the direct supervision of the Manager of Information systems. The person in this role utilizes knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks, test and evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements, and maintain all applications, security and network configurations.

Essential Functions:
  • LAN/WAN Maintenance: Troubleshoots basic network performance issues. Monitors cables and ensures reliable connectivity to the network. Assists with Network troubleshooting and maintaining data integrity
  • Sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external networks
  • Assists in server hardware and software set up, email account administration, and Windows account administration
  • Coordinates WAN/LAN issues with Network Consultant or Manager of Information Systems and assists Network Consultant when appropriate.
  • Disaster Recovery: Administers server backups and restores, performs file archiving and recovery
  • Help Desk: Responds to Help Desk requests for network related items. Provides technical assistance to Help Desk Specialists and Technicians
  • Telecommunications/ Printer Support: Responsible for phone system and printer communication issues with intermediate complexity
  • Recommends upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment
  • Researches and stays abreast of developments in IS technology
  • Responsible for coordinating and assisting with office moves and other field support
  • One to three years of network related IS experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS or related field, or IS-related certification and equivalent experience
  • Minimum CCENT Cisco Certification
  • Understanding of hardware (PC’s, laptops, tablets, scanners, other general office equipment, etc.) and standard core software (Microsoft Windows
  • Server 2008, Active Directory, MS Office, MS Windows 7, general IS utilities)
  • Able to work on-call as necessary
  • Ability to communicate professionally with technical and non-technical staff
  • Excellent customer service skills
