Presently we are seeking a talented Regional Director to create and foster philanthropic relationships in the New York Metropolitan Area.
Common Sense Media is seeking a dynamic, results-driven person to lead its New York Office. The New York Regional Director is responsible for driving a comprehensive effort to build Common Sense Media’s presence, philanthropic base and strategic partnerships in the New York Metropolitan Area. The New York Regional Director is a frontline fundraiser who cultivates, solicits, and manages high profile relationships with local foundations, major donors, civic, business, and community partners. He/she supports Common Sense Media’s local education, business development and media relations by providing strategic input and helping to identify, structure, and maintain partnerships in the region. He/she acts as the lead ambassador and spokesperson for Common Sense Media on the ground in New York and guides/supports the work of the New York Advisory Council. The New York Regional Director will be part of the senior staff at Common Sense Media and instrumental in both shaping our local efforts and contributing to the global conversation surrounding our strategy for growth.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Develop and oversee strategy to build Common Sense Media’s local presence and fundraising support in the New York metropolitan area. Develop annual goals, strategies and plans that integrate fundraising, education, and marketing program goals for the region.
Design and drive a comprehensive fundraising program that raises multi-million dollars of annual philanthropic support from a combination of major gifts, regional foundations, and high impact events. Identify, cultivate, solicit contributions, and manage relationships with funders to support local programs and contribute to overall fundraising goals. Create and implement highly effective donor relations and stewardship program.
Activate, guide and maximize the efforts of the New York Advisory Council to expand Common Sense Media’s organizational presence, funding base and regional visibility. In conjunction with CEO and Chief Strategy Officer identify, cultivate and recruit new council members.
Establish partnerships with Mayor’s Office and New York Area civic and community leaders to amplify Common Sense messages and extend outreach to diverse communities
Work with Common Sense Media’s Education team to support the plans to expand penetration of Common Sense Media’s K-12 programs in the tri-state region. Help to develop relationships with top education leaders and cement strategic partnerships with public and charter schools. Directly develop and oversee programs and relationships with local independent schools.
Work with VP Business Development and VP Marketing & Communications support efforts to grow media, technology, and education company distribution and marketing partnerships on the East Coast (e.g. Bloomberg, TWC, NBC, Scholastic).
Act as lead ambassador and spokesperson for the New York region; make speeches and presentations and represent Common Sense Media at meetings & public events
WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RESUME:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years working in a senior management role in at least one of the following sectors: non-profit, media and technology, education
5-7 years of successful experience in fundraising (particularly in a field related to education, families and children) through Board, major volunteer or operating role
Background in major gifts solicitation and campaign experience highly desirable
Deep understanding of the New York educational, non-profit, business, and philanthropic landscape
Outstanding oral and written communication skills; public speaking experience required
Creative and high level of energy and productivity
Execution-focused and able to convert strategy into action and results
Self-motivated and flexible; must work well independently
Ability to prioritize, organize, follow through, and multi-task in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
