WPTV Fall Internships
The WPTV Newschannel 5 internship program gives students real-world experience and provides a unique insight into newsroom operations. This includes learning alongside newsroom management, multimedia journalists, photographers, the web-channel team, and assignment desk editors.
We have two openings for the Fall semester.
The internship program offers college students the opportunity to take a first step into the broadcasting industry. Interns are unpaid and therefore must be:
--enrolled in an accredited college or university
--registered as a junior or senior
--receive college/university course credit for participating in this program. The amount of course credit to be earned is determined, and must be verified by, the college/university prior to starting assignment. To receive course credit, students must comply with all school requirements as well as all WPTV requirements. Grade point average and leadership experience are also an important part of the total assessment of student applicants.
Interns are expected to work 18 hours per week. This is to include two 9-hour shifts. The days and times are based on student availability, departmental needs, and will be determined prior to intern start date. Five internships are available per semester.
REQUIREMENTS Skills: Computer typing skills, ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in person and on the phone, completed at least one Broadcast Journalism writing course, and good organization skills. Students must also be up to date on current events (actively reading newspapers, watching newscasts, and utilizing sources).
