Responsible for the news content of the daily newspaper, special sections, projects, and products. Oversees editing, and presentation for print and online.

Essential Functions: • Ability to collaborate with multiple departments to produce a quality daily newspaper and digital products • Develop and oversee the news content, plan content and schedules • Make quick decisions on deadline in a professional manner • Troubleshoot issues and develop strategies for improvement • Ensure that deadlines are met for digital products and the press starts • Supervise and review direct reports • Mentoring staff and encouraging continuing improvement • Liaison between community members and desk editors via phone, e-mail or in person • Develop strategies to grow readership • Succinct writing, proofing and editing skills with a strong drive for accuracy and attention to detail • Hire employees and assist with disciplinary procedures

Experience: • 3-5 years of experience writing/editing and management •
  • Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Self-motivated, and possess an unwavering work ethic and strong desire to learn • Able to interact with the public • Command of the English language, AP style, grammar • Able to write clearly and concisely • Expertise with Microsoft Office suite • Expertise Adobe Suite • Working knowledge of design and editing software •Working knowledge of Web coding, HTML and social media • Able to plan, assign, and edit news stories • Thrives in a fast-paced, highly productive and collaborative environment with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills • Targets and achieves results, sets challenging goals, prioritizes tasks, overcomes obstacles, accepts accountability • Ability to adapt to change, is open to new ideas, takes on new responsibilities, handles pressure • Able to work in a team environment • Works well with department heads on projects and goals • Able to work with deadlines • Ability to manage and motive others • Listens and values the opinions of others • Acts on opportunity, generates new ideas, practices self-development • Understand and practice the elements of journalistic ethics and first amendment rights
Education: • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or communications preferred but not required

Working Conditions: • Professional office environment • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use a computer, talk, hear, perform repetitive motions •
