Nuclear Engineer to support the Transuranic Waste Department for the Idaho Cleanup Project

Description of Services: Evaluate Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) developed end-of-life radionuclide inventory information for the 103 cans of parts, pieces and fines (PPF) from irradiation examination operation that will ultimately be qualified for disposal at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The required responsibilities include providing technical review of information provided by the NNPP; identifying and resolving technical issues with radionuclide inventory calculations; assimilating this information into internal Engineering Design File reports that support future authorization basis document development. Additionally, extraction and assimilation of acceptable knowledge information for the PPF will be performed to support development of a WIPP-compliant radiological characterization program.

Key position requirements include: academic degree (advanced degree preferred) in nuclear engineering or reactor physics; knowledge of ingrowth of radionuclides and irradiation products, decay calculations and performing modeling (Origin, Microshield); and an active L- or Q-clearance. Work location is at INTEC. Knowledge of requirements for disposition of TRU waste at WIPP desirable. Ability to interface with NNPP and WIPP personnel is essential as is excellent writing and communication skills.
