Nurse III (Health Facilities) Participates as a team member or team coordinator utilizing expertise in the area of nursing in inspections, certifications, surveys, and investigations in Long Term Care facilities to determine compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and rules.
Essential Job Functions:
Communicates on a complex level with others (internally or externally) to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints. Testifies at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities. Completes inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies and prepares written reports supporting the actions and remedies recommended. Visits facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations. Conducts exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings and may assist in developing a plan to correct deficiencies. Conducts certification surveys, licensure inspections, or investigations in facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations. Performs quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others (for example, publications, assessments, reports).
Must be able to work hours other than 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, as necessary and maintain scheduling flexibility. Requires some overnight travel 2 to 4 times a month. Travel will be primarily centered around San Marcos and South Austin however can extend to the full 30 Central Texas counties served by Region 7. Must have reliable transportation. 85% travel.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Experience performing nursing work in quality assurance monitoring, certification, survey, and/or investigation of health facilities. Knowledge of nursing principles and acceptable professional standards of patient care. Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to work independently. Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions. Ability to learn, remember, and integrate complex concepts, difficult procedures, or complicated processes.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Experience in a Long Term Care Regulatory program. Experience as a practicing registered nurse in a hospital, an institutional health care facility, home health nursing. Experience performing nursing work in quality assurance monitoring, certification, survey, and/or investigation of health facilities. Experience providing guidance, policy clarifications, and information to others. Experience preparing detailed written reports. Experience evaluating reported complaints/incidents.
Ability to use the computer for writing reports. Applicant must be able to successfully complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within 12 months of hire.
