JOB SUMMARY: Reports to the assigned Health Services Manager and Director of Nursing | Health Services. Performs duties concerned with the intake of detainees into the facility, obtaining health information and history, and identification of health conditions requiring attention or medication in compliance with PNA, ACA/NCCHC, facility and correctional healthcare directives.
REQUIRED LICENSURES / CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS: Graduation from an accredited vocational nursing program with licensure as vocational nurse in the state of practice or state that recognizes the multi-state compact privilege. One year of experience required. Basic life support certification or certification within 30 days of hire required.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Extensive walking may be required. Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Requires full range of body motion. Vision correctable to 20/30, speech and hearing required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records. Knowledge of nursing practices. Must be able to perform tasks as outlined in policy and procedure manual and in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Ability to relate well to demanding patients in stressful situations.
ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS: Position is located in a correctional facility. Work is performed in a secure, enclosed facility. Protection from weather conditions is provided, not necessarily temperature changes. Occasional exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids is possible.
