Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager is responsible for the clinical documentation improvement program within the Health Information Management (Medical Records) department. The Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager serves as the central point person for all clinical documentation improvement activities. The Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager provides guidance, support and oversight to ensure that the clinical documentation improvement team operates efficiently and maintains high standards of quality and compliance.

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

Supervises day to day operations; monitors productivity

*

Manage the processes and personnel responsible for CDI review

*

Tracks and analyzes query opportunities

*

Identifies risk factors and educates

*

Assists in managing DNFB by ensuring prompt query responses concurrently

*

Serves as lead educator to clinical documentation improvement team

*

Coordinates training and educational programs for CDI team

*

Collaborates with physician advisor, other departments and physicians to improve clinical documentation

*

Promotes team-building with Coders and Clinical Documentation Specialists

*

Facilitates and implements changes to organizational practice, policies and procedures, as needed

*

Manages departmental staff within established budget to facilitate effective services as follows:

*

Recruits, selects, trains, and supervises departmental staff. Evaluates performance, making recommendations for personnel actions and motivation of employees to achieve performance excellence.

*

Oversees time and attendance coordination for assigned staff, including monitoring overtime and productivity

*

Develops and monitors departmental budget. Ensures appropriate provision and utilization of departmental resources.

*

Actively participates in setting, monitoring and achieving goals for the department

*

Promotes and facilitates continuous quality improvement teams and activities.

12. Participates in supporting the organizations vision, mission and values and adheres to Dekalb Medical Standards of Behavior.

13. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:
*

Bachelors degree in nursing plus current RN license in State of Georgia required

*

Minimum five (5) years experience adult inpatient med-surg or critical care. Case Management experience preferred. CCS, CDIP, or CCPC preferred certification

*

Two years hospital or related clinical documentation program management experience in a multi-hospital system

*

Strong knowledge of Coding Guidelines, Coding Clinics, MS DRGs, and Query Guidelines required

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: (List specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job responsibilities successfully. Relate each required qualification such as computer skills, communications skills, and organizational skills to the job and not the previous incumbent.)

Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization, both orally and in writing

Excellent organizational skills, results oriented, deadline conscious

Good team leader / facilitator / takes initiative / energetic

Knowledge and skill to gather and summarize data and analyze using common statistical functions
