Advertised Summary Job Description

Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Urology, the applicant will work directly with one of the largest and well recognized robotic surgery programs in New York. This would include prostate, kidney, bladder, and other urologic cancers. The nurse would work directly with faculty, and focus on minimally invasive surgical patients. Responsibilities would include teaching and education on preoperative and postoperative care, coordination of care in the outpatient setting, and direct follow up and interaction with patients. S/he will be responsible for overseeing patient flow and nurse productivity. S/he will contribute to nursing management education and professional development of staff and colleagues. S/he will evaluate factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost, as well as developing workflow practices that improve efficiency in the office setting. Provide direct patient care and support various faculty members with their direct patient care needs as required. The position allows for involvement in clinical research activities and interface with the Clinical Trial's Coordinator as needed. Under supervision, the candidate must be well-qualified in taking patient's history, completing directed physical exam, ordering appropriate laboratory and other studies, constructing thoughtful differential diagnosis and tailoring an individualized and evidenced-based treatment plan. S/he integrates the principles of preventive medicine and patient education into all aspects of clinical care. Clinical Responsibilities: Responsible for patient care as outlined in the Collaborative Practice Agreement. Take primary supervised care of patients in the Department of Adult Urology working with cutting edge technology and modern practice. These patients will be identified by physicians as appropriate for care; these patients will be followed in a longitudinal manner. Examine and triage patients in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals in an outpatient setting to provide quality care and to improve patient outcomes by strengthening continuity of care. Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examinations, prescribe and alter medication regimens, interpret findings and alter plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area. Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement. Support the mission, vision, philosophy and goals of the Department of Nursing and the Medical Center. Demonstrates accountability for own nursing practice. Advocates for patients families and supports patients' rights. Serves as a resource person to nurses including providing supervision of the administration of drugs and therapies when needed. Participates in departmental committees which influence and or determine policies affecting nursing practice and patient care delivery. Address patient complaints and written responses to patients to promote customer service. Develop systems and protocol to ensure reporting of lab results and other processes related to patient care. Review laboratory results and other clinical information pertinent to patient health, order appropriate tests and other ancillary services as needed, and develop care plans for patients. Provide teaching to patients and their families regarding disease processes, diagnostic testing, and post-operative care. S/he will perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Graduate of a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent or certified as Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination. Has completed a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or the equivalent and has been instructed in New York State and federal laws related to prescriptions and recordkeeping. Licenses RN, CNP. Excellent communication and organizational skills and a collaborative team approach to patient care are required. Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance and safety guidelines.
