The qualified candidate will possess the following:

A. Education
1. Graduate of a Master’s program affiliated with an accredited school of nursing leading to national certification as Nurse Practitioner.
2. Basic computer Windows based skills required

B. Experience/Professional Organization
1. Skilled in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests.
2. Experience in a surgical, anesthesia other specialized clinical setting preferred.
3. Highly organized, personable and preferably familiar with the process of preparing patients for surgery.
4. Ability to develop and maintain a productive working relationship with the hospital nursing staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists and various local specialists and PCPs.
5. Proven communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Skills in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.

C. Licensure/Certification
1. Current Georgia License as Registered RN recognized as a certified NP
2. ACLS– completed within 90 days of employment

Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner provides high-level clinical nurse support to the Medical Director and other Anesthesiologists by delivering oversight and management of the Preoperative Evaluation Center (PEC). Obtains thorough medical histories, performs focused physical examinations, identifies need for preoperative diagnostic testing and interpretes such results, and seeks specialist consultation as needed on patients scheduled to undergo a medical surgical or diagnostic procedure. The PEC NP supervises PEC RNs who are obtaining initial medical histories and preanesthesia assessments, performing vital signs, performing preoperative nursing assessments, providing surgery education, and performing venipuncture and 12-lead ECG. The PEC NP will be expected to develop relationships with surgeon’s offices that will aid in the development of protocols for the rapid and efficient transfer of information relevant to the patients’ anesthesia care. The PEC Midlevel Provider/Nurse Practitioner confirms patients are optimized for surgery and anesthesia, and works with surgeons, specialists and anesthesiologists to coordinate a care plan ensuring optimal management of various comorbidities throughout the perioperative period. The Nurse Practitioner is directly and indirectly responsible for care of the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, bariatric and geriatric patient in regards to the pre-admission and care-giver process.
