GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Provides daily nursing and medical management and care of patients with assisting in communications with patients; triaging patients and patient issues, symptom management, and teaching patient regarding their disease process and treatment, in collaboration with the Chairman of the department of Radiation Medicine or other designated physicians. Assists in diagnostic as well as therapeutic interventions and day-to-day evaluation, including diagnosis and evaluation of laboratory data, under direction of a physician. Implements a plan of care for patients. Provides for the psychosocial management of patients and families and coordinates care management with nursing staff. Serves as informational resource to patients, families and other physicians and makes appropriate referrals. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: B.S.N. from an accredited School of Nursing. MSN preferred. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program.

LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Licensed in DC as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Credentialed as a member of the GUH professional staff. CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of nursing experience, inclusive of at least one year of directly related experience in Radiation Medicine/Oncology preferred.
