This position is located in Ridgeway Cottage Ridgeway serves 45 individuals with profound I/D Disabilities who are medically fragile & require 24 hr nursing care. Programming includes sensory stimulation, improving eating/drinking skills, increasing communication skills, and object manipulation. The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clinical supervision of nursing services in Ridgeway Cottage. This Nurse Supervisor (NS) supervises 16 full time and several part time licensed nurses who are required for 24 hour direct medical and nursing services; provides professional guidance related to health care services provided by Health Care Technicians (HCT) and support personnel; is accountable for assessing nursing needs, developing long and short term goals, setting standards, monitoring the coordination and provision of health care, monitoring for quality assurance, planning for utilization of resources, and ensuring training; provides staff management functions including all aspects of personnel management; oversees the collaboration of health services including licensed nurses, families, members of the interdisciplinary team, and members of division management team; provides Administrator on Call duty as scheduled with full administrative responsibility for the Division; and provides professional supervision on a rotating basis on weekends and holidays as scheduled for divisions across campus for all health care needs.
Shift: 8am-5pm M-F with 24 hour responsibility, schedule adjustment as needed and/or requested
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Knowledge of the principles of health care and the techniques/applications of professional nursing. Ability to successfully complete Department of Health and Human Services Medication Administration Exam. Ability to be certified in CPR, First Aid, and NC Interventions. Demonstrated ability to in prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports. Demonstrated ability to lead a team of licensed and unlicensed staff and conduct charge nurse responsibilities. Working knowledge of assessing clients for signs/symptoms of illness/injury. Demonstrated ability to participate in client’s PC Plan to plan/coordinate appropriate intervention and implementation of care plan. Aptitude in providing feedback and advice to nursing staff on care rendered to patients. Skill in conducting assessments of individual’s treatment and develop nursing care plan. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships to support communication and teamwork relating to health issues. Ability to communicate verbal and written instructions to cottage staff, families, and patients as appropriate regarding health related issues. Aptitude in writing comprehensive nursing evaluations and preparation for various team meetings. Ability to orient nurses. Ability to provide staff training /instructions. Must possess a valid driver’s license .
Experience working with intellectually and developmentally disabled population.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.
This Nurse Supervisor is Journey level; however, management may consider contributing level applicants.
